Sebastian's Early Childhood Art

Mostly from 2000-2002.

Indiana Fish 1 Indiana Fish 2 The Planet Earth
In the summer of 2002 we participated in a Gyotaku workshop at a state park in Indiana. This is one fo the fish prints we made. Here is another Indiana fish print made in the Gyotaku method. We used model fishes made from life-casts, but not real fish to do this. Sebastian's watercolor painting of the planet Earth, as seen from space.
  September 2001 April 2001 April 2002 abstract
Sebastian's drawing of September. This was drawn in 2001, as he was starting first grade. Here is a drawing exercise Sebastian did as a kindergarten student, back in April of 2001. His dad added the color. This is an abstract drawing Sebastian made in 2001 or 2002.
Happy figures in a scene Dinosaur scene Rivals against steam shovels
Figures in Sebastian's earliest drawings are generally smiling and engaged in pleasant activities. Sebastian drew dinosaurs and prehistoric scenes such as this one. Just look at the competition threatening to drive steam shovels out of business. Here we have gas, electric, and diesel steam shovels lined up together.
When I grow up I want to be a scientist Family scene drawn by Sebastian May I have dinner with you asks the bird
Sebastian has drawn his plans for his adult life in this sketch. He reports that he desires to pursue a career in science, proably paleontology. A family scene drawn by Sebastian. There were four of us when Sebastian drew the Hadley-Ives family. Sebastian has had a strong sense of humor and an appreciation for the absurd. Here a bird-man (a penguin, I guess) has arrived and speaks in perfect English, asking to be invited to dinner.
Submarine Bus Robot 2 Robot 3
Sebastian imagined this combination of a bus and a submarine. Here the submarine bus shape is preserved in an entirely different them, a robot, with some steam shovel influences I think. Sebastian would work on a theme, drawing several sketches of a similar object until he was pleased with the form he could achieve. Now the thing is a giant robot robo-shovel. Just think of the excavation potential!
Strange Ant 1 Strange Ant 2 Strange ant 3
Strange Ant number one. Strange Ant number two. Srange Ant number three.
Submarine Wario Happy Mother's Day 2004
This submarine seems to be discovering some new sort of sea creature, probably something related to the Loch Ness Monster. Sebastian has combined Wario (the central figure, saying "Mine, all mine.") from Nintento with the giant Poke Ball poised above Wario's head. The red circles are gold coins, representing Wario's notorious greed. Sebastian's Mother's Day card drawn in May of 2004. Note the use of shadows.
  Dragon 1 Dragon 2 Dragon 3
A dragon in a curl. Sebastian's dragon. Dragon number three.
  Airplane Pikachus A yellow creature
An airplane. Sebastian, like most boys, enjoyed drawing airplanes. Pikachus were a favorite theme for a while. I think Sebastian made this drawing of a creature at the Sawdust Festival in Laguna Beach, in August of 2001.
Rocket Ships go Way Up Reptar 1 Reptar 2
Rockets go high, way up in space. That's what this drawing explains. Sebastian drew influences from animated movies and cartoons he watched. This Reptar is based on a Rugrats character. Sebastian's Reptar.
Eiffel Tower An Angel Sebastian Summer
Sebastian's drawing of the Eiffel Tower. An angel, as drawn by Sebastian. Sebastian's interpretation of the theme of Summer.
