Walk west of Heilongjiang University campus on May 15th in Harbin. On May 15th I went for a walk east of campus. It was a long walk: I left my apartment at 4:00 p.m. and returned just before 7:00 p.m. I had no map, but knew generally that the botanical gardens were east of campus, and not too far away, so I explore around until I found them. |

New housing areas south of the botanical gardens. | Spring flowers in the botanical garden. | The west side of Haping Road has this unit of the garden, which is closed to the public. |
Amusing trash can. | Another amusing trash can. | Some deer statues on the grounds of the Harbin University of Science and Technology’s South Quarter. |
It was a fairly long walk, and I returned to my apartment about 1 hour and 45 minutes after setting out. At this point in my stay (my fifth full day in China) I was over my jet lag, but I found that in general I was sleepy and ready for bed by 8:00 or 9:00 p.m., and it was difficult to stay asleep in bed after 5:00 a.m. All of China has just one time zone, and we are pretty far to the east of the country, so with darkness falling around 8:00 p.m. and light getting bright around 4:30 a.m., this is perhaps normal. |
