Page Three. Our Second Day in Madrid

This day we walked over to the Prado (very near our hotel) shortly after it opened, and pretty much spent the whole day there. Jeri went back to the hotel for a nap and some noodles from 1:00 to 4:30 in the afternoon, and I went back to get her at 4:30. We saw a special exhibit of Goya's 19th century paintings as well as the rest of the Goya collection. As photography is prohibited in the Prado, most of hte photographs from the day are taken during our walk in Retiro Park after the Prado closed at 8:00 p.m.

Forward to the next day.
Jeri having her Breakfast Department of Agriculture in Spain Sunset on church in Madrid
Here is Jeri sitting down to our lovely breakfast. Two croissants, two glasses of iced tea, and a strawberry iced drink. This is a lovely old treasure. The rock crystal cylinder may date back to the 12th or 13th century, although the rest of the object is far more recent (only 350-400 years old). This really weird thing is decorating a rock crystal boat made in the 16th century.

Jeri in Retiro Park. Our dinner. A cheese sandwich, a small bottle of orange flavored liquid, and an ice lolly. Cost: just under $12 in American dollars (converted from Euros). A monument to one of Spain's more recent Monarchs.

Charles the Third Jeri's Dinner Green Building Side
Here is a noble tree standing in Retiro Park. An impressive example of the sort of structures on the tops of Madrid buildings. Good architecture can be found in Madrid. The southern wall of our hotel building is an example of how a vertical building side may be made into a sort of garden.

The Next Day we went to the Royal Palace and then on to Toledo.

The Prado lived up to my expectations. I saw many of my favorite paintings, and the works of some of my favorite painters, such as Goya, El Greco, Valesquez, and Bosch. From 9:45, not long after it opened, I remained at the Prado until it closed, with only a short break to walk back and forth to the hotel once to pick up Jeri. This was surely a highlight of the trip for me, even though my legs were sore and I couldn't take photographs inside the museum.

Forward to the next day.
